Madame Flöck Wines is a young, exciting, energetic project from two friends, Robert Kane and Derek Labelle who met making wine in Barossa in 2016. The two immediately got on and the seed of working together on a winery was sown, but where and how!? Fast forward two years and Robert had moved to Winningen, met his future wife and settled in the area. Before too long an opportunity to purchase a small plot of vines came along. After a quick call to Derek, Madame Flöck Wines was born.
One of the most striking things about Derek and Robert’s project is their absolute dedication to and enthusiasm for vineyard work. These are two people who really understand that great wine is made in the field first and foremost and from the beginning they have been determined to work sustainably, without the crutches of chemical herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers. In their own words:
“All Madame Flöck’s vineyards are dry grown, herbicide free, and hand tended. This means no machinery ever touches our vineyards, no glyphosate messes with the natural biodiversity of our vineyards, and our hands are blistered, backs broken, and wits lost by the time we harvest.”
We are very excited to offer these wines from such a passionate and dedicated pair. The wines are made without any corrections or manipulations in a combination of tank, foudre and barrique. The Mad Dog Warwick is one of the most electric, monumental dry Rielsings we have tasted for some time!
