Founded in Faugères in 1999, Binet-Jacquet produced their first commercial vintage in 2005. They make wonderful wines from low-yielding bush vines planted in the rocky slate soils that are typical of the region. Viticulture here is certified biodynamic and yields are around 30 hectolitres even at the entry point of the range. From the beginning Olivier and Pierre were determined to create a winery that was above and beyond the general quality of modern Faugères wines. All vines are planted to higher density and trained to a free standing ‘gobelet’ on historic rootstocks selected from some of the region’s most venerable vineyards. In all, the estate has 17 individual plots, all of which are vinified separately before assemblage to one of three wines each year. All undergo spontaneous fermentation and élevage in a variety of vessels including stainless steel, old barrels and concrete egg. The project at Binet-Jacquet is ultimately all about the vineyard and their dedication has paid off in spectacular style with wines that are full of pure vibrant fruit and mineral complexity.
