Château du Coing is one of the oldest estates in Muscadet. Originally purchased by Bernard Chéreau 1973 (a trailblazer in recognising the quality potential for a region dominated by bulk wine at the time), it is currently owned and run by his daughter Véronique Günther Chéreau and granddaughter Aurore who joined after graduating in oenology in 2010. Situated at the confluence of la Sèvre and la Maine tributaries of the Loire, the vines are south facing and turned to the ocean which has a strong influence on the growing season maintaining a fresh, cooling influence which lends acidity to the grapes. Soils are Gneiss and Schist and the vines for the ‘Comte de St. Hubert’ are over 70 years old. All parcels are fermented separately and wines are all left to age on the lees over winter until bottling in March. The domaine adopts ‘La lutte raisonnée’ approach to viticulture. Classic, carefully made, mineral led Muscadet.
